Moving day can be chaotic, and cold perishables are often the last thing people think about until it’s too late. Whether you’re transporting fresh produce, meat, dairy, or frozen foods, keeping everything at the right temperature is essential. At Super Move, we’ve helped thousands of Sydney and Northern Beaches families move homes smoothly — and that includes helping them handle their fridge and freezer items.
Here’s how to manage your perishables the right way.
1. Start By Reducing Food Stock
A week before moving, begin using up as many perishables as possible. This minimises waste and makes the move easier.
2. Use Cooler Bags, Ice Packs, or Insulated Boxes
Cold perishables should be kept in insulated containers to maintain temperature.
Recommended items:
Cooler bags
Styrofoam boxes
Gel ice packs
Thermal blankets
These will keep food cold for several hours during transport.
3. Leave Your Fridge Running Until the Last Possible Moment
If possible, keep your fridge powered until shortly before your movers arrive. This keeps your perishables at safe temperatures for longer.
4. Pack Foods Correctly
To prevent leaks and contamination:
Seal meats in airtight bags
Wrap containers with cling wrap
Keep liquids in upright positions
5. Use a Dedicated “Cold Items Box”
Label this clearly:📦 “Cold Perishables – Open First”
Let your movers know which box contains cold items so they can prioritise it at delivery.
